Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef, 80% lean
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 4 whole wheat burger buns
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Flaky sea salt, to taste
- 2 cups mixed greens
- 1 large tomato, sliced
- 1/4 cup pickles, sliced
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
Method
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently to avoid overworking the meat.
- Divide the beef mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties slightly larger than the buns.
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add olive oil. Once hot, add the beef patties.
- Cook the patties for about 4 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or longer for desired doneness.
- Place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking and cover to melt.
- Toast the burger buns if desired. Spread mayonnaise and mustard on the bottom bun.
- Assemble the burgers with mixed greens, a tomato slice, a beef patty, and pickles. Top with the bun lid.
- Serve the burgers immediately, with a sprinkle of flaky sea salt on top.
