Juicy Weekend Burgers
These juicy burgers are perfect for a summer weekend cookout. The homemade buns add an extra touch to make this meal truly special.
Ingredients
- 500 g ground beef, preferably 80% lean
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 4 lettuce leaves
- 1 large tomato, sliced
- 1 red onion, thinly sliced
- 4 homemade burger buns
Method
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Gently mix to combine without overworking the meat.
- Divide the meat mixture into four equal portions and shape each into a patty. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb.
- Preheat a grill or stovetop grill pan over medium-high heat. Brush the patties with olive oil on both sides.
- Place the patties on the grill and cook for 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer for desired doneness. Add a slice of cheddar cheese on top during the last minute of cooking.
- While the burgers are cooking, slice the homemade buns in half and toast them lightly on the grill.
- Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom bun, followed by the cooked patty with melted cheese, tomato slices, and red onion. Top with the other half of the bun.
