Hearty Baked Spaghetti and Meatballs
This hearty spaghetti and meatballs dish is perfect for a slow summer weekend. The meatballs are baked to perfection, and the whole dish is a comforting classic that everyone will love.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 pound spaghetti
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
- Flaky sea salt, to taste
Method
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, egg, garlic, parsley, salt, and black pepper until combined.
- Form the mixture into 1-inch meatballs and place them on a baking sheet. Bake the meatballs in the oven for 20-25 minutes, until golden and cooked through.
- While the meatballs are baking, cook the spaghetti according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In a large pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook for 5 minutes until softened.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 10 minutes. Add the baked meatballs to the sauce and cook for another 5 minutes.
- Combine the cooked spaghetti with the sauce and meatballs, tossing to coat. Sprinkle with fresh basil before serving.
