Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Method
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and sugar until combined.
- Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, and whisk until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, until the edges are firm and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing and serving.
