Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 2 cups water
- 8 ounces spaghetti
- Fresh basil leaves, for garnish
Method
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
- In a bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined and form into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
- Add the meatballs to the skillet and cook until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes. Remove meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the crushed tomatoes and water. Bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally.
- Add the spaghetti to the skillet, ensuring the pasta is submerged in the sauce. Return the meatballs to the skillet.
- Cover and simmer for about 15 minutes, or until the spaghetti is cooked al dente, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.
