Classic Sausage and Peppers Skillet
This sausage and peppers skillet is a perfect summer dinner that's both hearty and delicious. Ideal for a slow weekend cooking session, it brings the classic flavors of juicy sausage and vibrant peppers to your table.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 pound Italian sausage, sliced
- 2 red bell peppers, sliced
- 1 yellow bell pepper, sliced
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- Flaky sea salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- Fresh basil, for garnish
Method
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the sliced sausage and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Remove sausage from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the red and yellow bell peppers, onion, and garlic. Sauté for 5 minutes, or until the vegetables begin to soften.
- Stir in the dried oregano and red pepper flakes. Cook for another 2 minutes.
- Pour the chicken broth into the skillet and bring to a simmer.
- Return the sausage to the skillet and mix with the peppers and broth. Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the sausage is fully cooked and the flavors meld.
- Season with flaky sea salt and black pepper to taste.
- Garnish with fresh basil before serving.
