Classic Beef Chili
This classic beef chili is perfect for crisp autumn evenings. It's budget-friendly and made with pantry staples. Serve it with your favorite toppings for a comforting meal.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 large onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 1 can (15 ounces) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (15 ounces) black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Method
- In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add the ground beef to the pot, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned, about 7-10 minutes.
- Stir in the chili powder, ground cumin, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 1-2 minutes to toast the spices.
- Pour in the crushed tomatoes, kidney beans, black beans, beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir to combine.
- Bring the chili to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and let simmer for 45-60 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve hot with your choice of toppings such as diced onions, shredded cheese, or sour cream.
