Classic American Peach Cobbler

Ingredients

  • 6 cups fresh peaches, peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine sliced peaches, 1/2 cup of sugar, lemon juice, and cinnamon. Cook over medium heat for about 5 minutes or until the sugar is dissolved and peaches are juicy. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the milk until just combined.
  4. Pour the melted butter into a 9x13-inch baking dish. Pour the batter over the butter but do not stir.
  5. Spoon the peach mixture evenly over the batter. Do not stir.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the batter has set.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
