Baked Spaghetti and Meatballs

This classic spaghetti and meatballs recipe is ideal for a relaxing weekend when you have time to let flavors meld beautifully. Baked in the oven, it’s a satisfying meal that brings everyone to the kitchen.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cans (14 ounces each) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 pound spaghetti
  • Fresh basil, for garnish

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic, egg, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into 1-inch meatballs and place on a baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes or until browned.
  4. While meatballs are baking, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  5. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and sugar. Simmer for 15 minutes, then add baked meatballs to the sauce. Simmer for another 30 minutes.
  6. Meanwhile, cook spaghetti according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  7. Serve the spaghetti topped with meatballs and sauce. Garnish with fresh basil.
